A couple in Malheur County, Oregon, are still in shock after an armed intruder entered their home and demanded a sandwich. According to the Malheur County District Attorney (MCDA), the 67-year-old man identified as Terry Lee Martz, who has a felony warrant, accessed the home on a Saturday afternoon through a door that was left open.
Martz went straight into the kitchen and pointed a gun at the homeowner. On inquiring what the stranger wanted, Martz demanded to be made a sandwich, which the resident obliged as he asked if the stranger’s wife was fine.
The husband then went to his wife, who was in a different location in the house. He informed her about the intruder, quickly grabbed a shotgun from the bedroom, and headed back to the kitchen.
The two men started fighting, each holding a gun. During the struggle, the husband shot Martz on his side near the chest. The husband and wife then restrained and disarmed the criminal.
The residents reached out to the police and paramedics who came to the scene. Martz was taken to the hospital for medical care, as a report from MCDA indicates that he is likely to survive the gunshot. After his release from the hospital, he will be taken into custody in Oregon or Idaho since his felony warrant is in Idaho.
