Unboxing The Smith & Wesson EZ!
I got asked almost every day what my favorite handgun was. I didn’t have an answer until Smith and Wesson came out with the m&p EZ 380, which is now my go-to gun.
It’s a great time to go over this gun.
First, we will check the chamber and make sure it is empty. And just so you know, there is no live ammunition anywhere around. We do have a couple of snap caps.
To show you how easy this firearm is to use, we’re going to start with the magazine. This handgun comes with two magazines, each with an eight-round capacity. So this gun is going to hold eight plus one. The magic of the magazine is that it comes with a guide for your finger to lower the follower, allowing you to drop the rounds in, and you don’t have to struggle with loading.
The slide is the most effortless one I’ve ever racked. It’s made for anybody who doesn’t want to struggle with their firearm, not just people with arthritis or women, but anybody who wants a smooth operating gun. That’s why they call this the Smith and Wesson easy.
A couple of other features you’ve got to know about include a chamber-loaded indicator. The indicator will point upward if there is a round in the chamber. So, you can tell the presence of ammunition in the chamber without even picking up the firearm, which could be a life-saving feature.
The site sighting system has three white dots and the rear sight, which is adjustable for windage. You’ll notice the grip texture has been optimized for both sides of the firearm for the recoil, which is almost non-existent.
The trigger is a crisp, light trigger that works smoothly without much struggle. It doesn’t feel like a lot of the old m&p triggers, which to me felt like you’re dragging a rusty sled down train tracks. This trigger is crisp.
A great feature about the Smith and Wesson shield is that you can disassemble this gun without pulling the trigger, adding to an added safety benefit.
So to disassemble, you’re just going to pull down on the tear-down lever. And then, from there, you will rack the slide back, forward, and off. One thing to note is that when you assemble the firearm back together, you drop your barrel in first, all the way forward, and then back.
You will notice that the recoil spring has a flat side and a curved edge. The curved edge is going to be facing up, which is counterintuitive. You’d think it’s the flat end. You’ll have some problems getting it back together if you have the flat end facing up.
Once you have that curved end, make sure you don’t depress the grip safety as you pull the slide back, and it will go into the battery while you lock it in place. Flip that switch up, and you are back into operation.
With this firearm, you have an optional ambidextrous thumb safety. Another critical feature is the grip safety. The benefit to the shooter with grip safety is that suppose you’re in a physical altercation with somebody, and they take the gun from you. If they don’t have a proper grip training idea, they might not be able to shoot as the firearm is not functional. As you’ll see, with that grip safety not depressed, the trigger will not operate, and vice versa.
That said, the magazine release can switch easily to the other side. So if you are a lefty, you can easily release that magazine with your left hand. The slide stop is not ambidextrous but only on one side.
You’ve got your Picatinny rail for accessories, lights, lasers, or any training systems you want.
This gun is thin and lightweight and can be carried comfortably all day, whether on the nightstand next to your bed or somewhere in your vehicle.
The fact that it’s so slim and lightweight means that this is the optimal carry gun, and we’re going to top it off with an 18-degree grip angle. This has been engineered scientifically with that 18-degree grip angle for a natural point of aim. That means it becomes an extension of your arm. For many guns, you must adjust to the camp of your wrist to use it properly.
And on top of it, we have a Smith and Wesson armor night durable corrosion-resistant finish, which means this gun will last a lifetime. I cannot say enough about the m&p Easy shield 380, And every shooter needs to have one of these.
